Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis believes CS2’s competitive maps should give the defending side the advantage. Speaking on the latest episode of HLTV Confirmed, the FURIA rifler explained that T-sided maps force CTs into playing risky and often unsustainable Counter-Strike.
“I think the maps should be CT-sided overall,” YEKINDAR said. “If you make a map T-sided, that means the CT-side has to go for aggressive stuff and more saves.”
The discussion came as part of a segment on CS2’s map pool changes and the new economy changes. With fewer rounds to work with and a harsher punishment for losing early fights, CTs on T-sided maps can be pushed into frequent save calls, something YEKINDAR sees as unhealthy for the game.
Anubis left no room for CTs
One map he will not miss is Anubis. “I hated Anubis, because you have to push [as CT]. If the T’s do a full execution you legit have no chance.” The Latvian highlighted how the map offers little space for defensive setups, forcing CTs to take chances just to keep control.
On the other hand, the return of Overpass to the competitive pool has YEKINDAR’s full support. “I think the addition of Overpass is great. We have a lot of Overpass players on our team. Only molodoy has not played Overpass, but playing it as an AWP’er is not hard.”
At IEM Cologne, the CT side won more rounds than the T side on every single map. Overpass made just three appearances, with CTs edging out 52.5% of the rounds to the T side’s 47.5%.
