Anastasija “Heccu” Tolmačeva has addressed her current professional status within the Counter-Strike 2 scene, citing significant difficulties in securing talent roles despite her long term involvement in the industry. The Latvian host and interviewer, who has been active in the circuit since 2019, released a video statement explaining the emotional and financial strain caused by a lack of consistent hiring.
Tolmačeva described her current position as an unsustainable “one-sided affection” for the professional scene.
Unfortunately, my let’s say one-sided affection for the CS scene just made me feel like I am the sole initiator and at this point it’s just too emotionally draining and also at this point it’s also really financially draining,” she stated.
Hiring challenges and professional value
Throughout 2024 and 2025, Tolmačeva has maintained a presence through independent content creation and occasional broadcast roles, such as her work with FISSURE and ESL Impact. However, she noted that the frequency of these opportunities has declined.
It’s not a secret that I started having difficulties getting hired as a CS talent. And do you want to know why? I have no idea. I legit have absolutely no idea why,” Tolmačeva said.
She addressed potential questions regarding her dedication to the game by highlighting her recent activity. She pointed to 1,200 hours of watch parties in a single year and her decision to pay out of pocket for flights and accommodation to attend tournaments. She also emphasized her unique skill set as a multilingual broadcaster, particularly her ability to provide live translations and comfort for Russian-speaking players during English-language interviews.
| Tournament | Tier | Position |
| Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu 2024 | S-Tier | Sideline Reporter |
| Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2023 | S-Tier | Interviewer |
| ESL Pro League Season 17 | S-Tier | Commentator/Analyst |
| Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2023 | S-Tier | Interviewer |
| Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022 | S-Tier | Sideline Reporter |
| ESL Pro League Season 16 | S-Tier | Sideline Reporter |
| Intel Extreme Masters XVI – Katowice | S-Tier | Interviewer |
The whole reason why I am capable of doing this is because my Russian is pretty much on the level of a native speaker,” she explained. “I take out that discomfort. I, you know, being multilingual helps to make sure that this kind of content, it just goes really smooth.
Alternative career paths and the 2026 deadline
Before entering esports, Tolmačeva pursued a career in science. She holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and biotechnology and a master’s degree in molecular and cell biology from the University of Geneva. She indicated that returning to this field is a “solid” plan B if her situation in Counter-Strike does not improve.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different result and I’m kind of done going crazy,” she remarked during the video.
Tolmačeva stated that for the remainder of 2026, she will remain involved in Counter-Strike but is now open to working in other gaming titles. She intends to evaluate her progress at the end of the year to determine if a permanent exit from the industry is necessary.
I wish to urge the people of the CS community to take a moment from their busy everyday life and think, would it be a loss for the CS community if a person with my skill set decides to leave?” she asked. “By the end of 2026, I will have to check out if hope is still at the bottom of my Pandora’s box.
