Virtus.pro Eliminates Astralis in Bucharest

Another disappointing result leaves Astralis on the brink ahead of Major qualifiers.

Another disappointing result leaves Astralis on the brink ahead of Major qualifiers.

Astralis’ struggles continued in Bucharest as the Danish organization failed to advance to the playoffs at PGL Bucharest following a decisive loss to Virtus.pro.

Once regarded as the world’s best Counter-Strike team, Astralis is now facing mounting pressure after another underwhelming performance. Their final match in Bucharest, a do-or-die encounter against Virtus.pro, ended in a convincing 2-0 defeat that knocked them out of the competition just ahead of the online qualifiers for the upcoming Major in Austin.

Astralis began their campaign with promise, defeating FaZe in their opening match of the Swiss Group Stage. However, consecutive losses to 3DMAX and Apogee quickly put them on the brink of elimination. A narrow 2-1 victory over Legacy kept their hopes alive but did little to inspire confidence. In their must-win match against Virtus.pro, Astralis looked out of sorts and trailed throughout the series as VP secured the win.

Virtus.pro now advances to the Quarterfinals, which begin tomorrow.

Big week ahead for Astralis

As for Astralis, all attention turns to next week’s qualifier for the Austin Major. A failure to qualify would mark their fifth consecutive absence from a Major and could force yet another roster shakeup.
