Valve has released a major update for Counter-Strike 2, featuring a complete rework of all first-person animations and significant changes to three competitive maps: Inferno, Train, and Overpass.

Valve has released a major update for Counter-Strike 2, featuring a complete rework of all first-person animations and significant changes to three competitive maps: Inferno, Train, and Overpass.

Animation Overhaul

The most visible change in this update is the introduction of new first-person animations for all weapons. The update replaces animations for deploying, firing, reloading, and inspecting weapons. These changes are part of the game’s transition to the new AnimGraph2 system, which aims to modernize animation handling in CS2.

All chicken animations have also been updated.

Map Changes

Inferno received the most extensive updates. The path from Church to Coffins has been narrowed and widened at different points, and the windows above Coffins inside Church have been opened, giving CTs better options for retaking the B site. On A site, the Balcony railing has been expanded to cover the full edge. Additional changes were made to props, curbs, lighting, and visibility throughout the map.

Train now offers more cover for defenders. New objects have been added in Yard near the Hell train, on B site outside of Z, and inside Upper B halls. Ivy and platform layouts were adjusted, and lighting and clipping were improved across the map.

Overpass received targeted adjustments to key positions. Breakable glass was added to B doors, the Heaven railing was modified, and sightlines around the A site truck and stairs were altered to limit angles and improve balance. Some visual and texturing tweaks were also included.

Gameplay and Audio Updates

  • Damage prediction while shooting on the move has been improved.
  • Shotgun reloads will no longer resume automatically if interrupted.
  • Surf-related bugs causing players to get stuck on map geometry were fixed.

On the audio side, weapon reload and draw sounds have been refined to align with the animation updates. Surf maps now feature new speed-based movement sounds, with adjustable volume settings. A bug preventing individual voice volume controls from working correctly was also resolved.

Other Changes

  • The Community Server Browser now opens in the Steam Overlay when using fullscreen exclusive mode.
  • Dogtown was updated to the latest version from the Community Workshop.

This update is part of Valve’s ongoing effort to refine the CS2 experience, both visually and mechanically, while also supporting the community mapping scene.
