“Too many cons right now” – Is dupreeh done competing?

The Counter-Strike legend doesn't seem super optimistic about his future as a pro player.

Five Counter-Strike Major titles, 27 notable trophies, and seven HLTV Top 20 placements.

Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen’s legacy in Counter-Strike speaks for itself. But as with all great things, an expiration date eventually arrives – even for esports veterans.

Over the past few years, the former Astralis star has seen a decline in his performance, leading many to question whether his time at the top is coming to an end.

“I have really bad cards on my hand”

Now, the man himself has addressed the uncertainty surrounding his future.

In the latest episode of HLTV Confirmed, dupreeh openly discussed where he stands in his career, even acknowledging that if the right opportunity doesn’t arise, retirement might be inevitable.

– There are a lot of pros and cons about returning to the server. Unfortunately, there are too many cons right now, to be completely fair, with the addition of my second kid and the feelings I have had since I was benched, dupreeh said.

He continued:

– Returning to the server would be a possibility if the right offer came, but I don’t think I’m lucrative enough to be given that kind of offer right now. I have really bad cards on my hand; I’m turning 32 in a couple of days and I have two kids now. I’m not 16 years old anymore, I can’t sit and play Counter-Strike for 18 hours a day. I have to be true about where I am in my life right now.

A future coach?

When asked about the possibility of transitioning into a coaching role, the soon-to-be 32-year-old didn’t rule it out but emphasized that it would have to be for the right reasons.

– Coaching could be a possibility for me in the future. (…) I just don’t want to pick up coaching because I can get a contract somewhere and earn money. I want to do it because it actually matters.

– Maybe I would consider waiting a little bit and getting my life in balance, while still following the game and the scene, so that I can in a year or so pick up the coaching role – maybe start as an assistant coach to see if it’s something for me, dupreeh explained.

dupreeh is currently sitting on the bench at Falcons but hasn’t played a competitive match since the Shanghai Major RMRs in November.
