Team Falcons come back from a first-map stumble

The clash between Falcons and G2 carried immense weight. The storyline of the Kovač cousins facing off, with Nikola “NiKo” Kovač representing Falcons and Nemanja “huNter” Kovač playing for G2, brought a heightened level of tension to the matchup.

Additionally, this was the premier fixture of the day, marking the first time two teams ranked in the top ten battled for dominance.

Falcons ultimately managed to secure a 2:1 series victory against a remarkably resilient G2 squad. The opening map belonged to G2, where an incredible individual showing from NiKo went unrewarded. However, Falcons quickly rallied behind their captain, Finn “karrigan” Andersen, and delivered a truly memorable comeback on the second map.

The final deciding map extended into overtime, where Falcons found their rhythm and comfortably closed out the victory with a 16:13 score.

It is hard not to feel some sympathy for G2, especially given that Guy “Nertz” Iluz, Ariel “HeavyGod” Elita, and huNter put forward some of their strongest performances in recent memory.

While Falcons have looked somewhat inconsistent of late, it will be fascinating to see how they harness this momentum approaching the next stage of the competition.

Inferno – Falcons waste NiKo’s magic, G2 takes the win

Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Ilya “m0nesy” Osipov kept Falcons highly competitive during the early stages of the match, while the entirety of G2 held their ground through a strong collective effort.

It initially felt like the map was destined to be the NiKo show, highlighted by an incredible two versus two clutch using only a Desert Eagle. Alongside that firepower, kyousuke and Finn “karrigan” Andersen delivered an absolute clinic on how to properly lock down the B site. Most importantly, karrigan seemed to firmly bounce back from his somewhat quiet performances in recent tournaments.

G2 managed to keep the scoreline deadlocked at five to five, but Falcons found the final edge to take the half 7:5. Nemanja “huNter” Kovač, Ariel “HeavyGod” Elita, and Guy “Nertz” Iluz were the primary reasons G2 secured their five rounds and stayed completely in the race.

The second half opened with a deeply suspenseful round 14. Although m0nesy managed a final second bomb plant, G2 held their nerve and patiently secured the retake.

By the 16th round, G2 managed to even the score at 8:8, largely thanks to a brilliant defensive hold on Banana by Nertz.

Round 17 then showcased sheer excellence from NiKo, who successfully defended the planted bomb against 4 Counter Terrorists to steal the round back for Falcons.

Ultimately, G2 proved that having a deeply cohesive roster of equally contributing players can overcome a monumental individual performance, even against NiKo and his massive 27 kill and 14 death scoreline.

Nertz emerged as the exact hero G2 needed, leading his squad to take the first map from Falcons with a 13:10 victory.

Dust II – Falcons secure their map pick despite G2’s best efforts

After an easy pistol round win for Falcons to kick off the new map, both teams engaged in a chaotic scramble of force buys over the next two rounds.

For G2, Ariel “HeavyGod” Elita demonstrated exactly how aggressive Counter Terrorist plays should be executed. He dominated early with the Scout before pushing down the middle of the map to eliminate two Falcons players with a Five SeveN pistol.

On the other side of the server, Finn “karrigan” Andersen returned to his former glory, posting a stellar seven kill and three death record across the opening five rounds.

Ultimately, as soon as Ilya “m0nesy” Osipov got his hands on the AWP, the trajectory of the match was firmly set.

Team Falcons completely rolled through the opposition, closing out the first half of their map pick with a commanding 10:2 scoreline.

Ariel “HeavyGod” Elita kicked off the second half with an incredible individual performance, ensuring that G2 began to recover from the massive deficit they suffered before the break.

By the end of round 17, G2 had secured five consecutive rounds to significantly close the gap, bringing the scoreline to a tense 10:7.

While Ilya “m0nesy” Osipov was unable to pull off back to back clutches during two separate B site retakes, Falcons quickly regained their footing. Following a tough last minute scramble, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač found the crucial impact needed to push Falcons to 11:7.

Ultimately, an insane clutch play from m0nesy redeemed his earlier rounds and sealed the deal, allowing Team Falcons to conquer Dust II with a 13:8 victory.

Ancient – Falcons carry out a W on OT

Falcons endured an abysmal start to the deciding map, dropping 4 consecutive rounds right out of the gate. During this early slump, Finn “karrigan” Andersen failed to find a single kill, while Ilya “m0nesy” Osipov, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, and Maxim “kyousuke” Lukin managed only one elimination each.

On the opposite side of the server, Matúš “MATYS” Šimko stood tall with six kills, and Alvaro “SunPayus” Garcia supported the G2 setup with four crucial frags.

However, after surrendering those initial rounds, Falcons finally woke up and completely shifted the momentum by chaining together five consecutive round victories.

The first half eventually concluded with Falcons finding their footing and securing a 7:5 lead heading into the break.

The second half began with a fantastic performance and a crucial clutch from Guy “Nertz” Iluz and Nemanja “huNter” Kovač, who successfully defused the bomb to set the tone for G2.

In the blink of an eye, Falcons lost their momentum once again, surrendering five of the first six rounds after the break to hand G2 a 10:8 lead. Despite this sudden collapse, Falcons dug deep and somehow managed to tie the scoreline at 10:10.

Following 4 intensely competitive rounds, kyousuke stepped up to carry Falcons exactly when they needed it, forcing the match into overtime. Under the immense pressure of those extra rounds, both René “TeSeS” Madsen and kyousuke delivered massive plays to finalize the victory.

Falcons ultimately conquered Anubis with a 16:13 scoreline, officially punching their ticket to the next stage of the tournament.
