Sharks stun HEROIC on Nuke as GamerLegion outlast NRG in Cologne

HEROIC initiated their IEM Cologne Major 2026 campaign on Nuke. The map selection provided a necessary refuge for the Norwegian organization, which had suffered four consecutive defeats on both Mirage and Inferno in the weeks preceding the tournament.

Despite these recent struggles, HEROIC entered the server as clear favorites against Sharks. A strong early performance from Yasin “xfloud” Koç positioned the team favorably in the opening rounds, allowing HEROIC to secure a 7-5 advantage by halftime. However, the Brazilian squad of Sharks mounted a highly resilient response, refusing to concede the match easily.

Sharks systematically dismantled the HEROIC game plan in the second half. The Brazilians secured their first lead of the match at 10-9, exposing the ongoing inconsistencies that have plagued HEROIC throughout the 2026 season. Sharks maintained their composure to finalize a 13-10 upset victory, adding another unexpected result to a chaotic opening round in Germany.

GamerLegion halt NRG comeback to claim opening victory

In the parallel fixture, GamerLegion faced North American representatives NRG. Many analysts projected GamerLegion to achieve a flawless 3-0 record in Stage 1 following their strong early season form. The roster immediately validated these expectations, recovering from a lost pistol round to string together six consecutive rounds on the defense.

NRG utilized a tactical timeout to break the momentum. The pause proved effective, allowing the North American roster to salvage the half and narrow their deficit to 5-7 at the break. NRG carried this resurgence into the second half, with Michael “Grim” Vance spearheading an offensive push that granted his team a 9-7 lead.

GamerLegion eventually stabilized their setup. The team adapted to the heavy utility usage from NRG, finding crucial timings and opening kills to regain control of the server economy. GamerLegion successfully navigated the late-game pressure to secure a hard-fought 13-10 win.
