He is one of the most decorated players in CS history with three Majors, three Grand Slams, and loads of other trophies under his belt. Now, Robin “ropz” Kool, has set his eyes on a rare chance to secure a legacy-defining victory when Vitality begins their playoff run tomorrow at the IEM Cologne Major 2026 with a match against Team Falcons.
A unique opportunity for a third consecutive championship
Securing three consecutive Major titles is a feat rarely seen in Counter-Strike history. Speaking during the media day ahead of the playoffs, ropz acknowledged the scale of what Vitality could achieve in Cologne, though he remains focused on the immediate matches ahead.
You see this kind of opportunity maybe once in ten years,” ropz said. “It is very unique. Personally, it still feels quite far. It will feel that way until we reach the final, because that is the game where you can actually do it. For now, it does not feel as realistic, but hopefully we get to the final. That is when the pressure increases and everything starts to settle in.
Adapting to an elevated level of competition
Vitality did not experience a flawless run through the group stage. The 3-1 qualification path demonstrated that the gap between the top tier and the rest of the field has narrowed, with multiple rosters delivering high-level performances throughout the event.
The general level of play is high at this Major,” ropz explained. “Underdogs like 9z and FlyQuest are playing very well, taking maps off the top teams. That makes it difficult for us. If everyone is playing well, it means the tournament will be hard. We are working to stay a step ahead, but it is not as easy as it seems. We are not playing as cleanly as we wish, but progressing through the stage is what matters.
Addressing the individual and team form, ropz noted that maintaining peak performance indefinitely is an unrealistic expectation in professional competition.
Our form is perhaps not as strong as it was when we were here a year ago,” ropz stated. “That is completely normal because form is temporary. We are trying to find ways to innovate and stay ahead.
Facing a familiar leadership style against Falcons
Vitality start their playoff campaign on a difficult side of the bracket, beginning with a matchup against Falcons. The encounter features an added layer of narrative as Falcons now field Finn “karrigan” Andersen, the former in-game leader of ropz.
It is a difficult matchup,” ropz said. “They have beaten us a few times recently. The bracket is tough, and I see the main favorites on our side of the draw. It is going to be a battle.
The roster change within Falcons introduces new tactical variables that Vitality must account for during preparation.
We have played Falcons many times and had some trouble against their previous lineups, but we have not played against this specific roster yet,” ropz noted. “It will be different because they have an altered style under karrigan. He is excellent at improvising and making decisions on the spot. Where they might have played with more structure before, karrigan will bring more individual freedom and mid-round calling based on his reading of the game. We will try to bring some new elements to the match.
Winning the event would also fulfill a personal milestone for the Estonian player, who views the Cologne trophy as a specific target for his legacy.
I would love to win Cologne again,” ropz said. “It is the only trophy I have not won twice so far in my career, so this would be special for me. The Lanxess Arena is one of the biggest and most emotional stages in Counter-Strike.”
