It’s not optimal how Valve determines the invites for Major tournaments.
That’s the opinion of Falcons star Nikola “NiKo” Kovač.
More specifically, NiKo believes the cut-off date for the VRS ranking, which decides the invitations for each stage, is set too far in advance of the tournament itself.
For this Major, the invites were based on the VRS standings from April 7 – two months before the start of the Major.
NiKo shared his thoughts in an interview with Dust2.us ahead of Stage 2 in Austin.
– Yeah, it’s definitely not optimal, I would say. If you look at Dallas, even, we had to qualify for that event back in February. I feel like sending the invites out so early is definitely not something that people like to have. I think it should be closer to the event. It would make it more balanced in a way.
– It is what it is; we made our bed. We failed a couple of events before the invites went out, such as Pro League and BLAST Lisbon. That’s on us, but I still feel like the invites should be sent out closer to the event, so it’s based on the forms of the teams. A lot can happen in two or three months.
NiKo and Falcons are currently competing in Stage 2 of the BLAST.tv Austin Major.
After a rough showing on the opening day, they now face elimination and will play OG later today at 22:00 CEST.
