karrigan on calling against FURIA: I threw out the stratbook and went into flow state

Finn “karrigan” Andersen, renowned as one of Counter-Strike’s sharpest and most experienced minds, once again showcased his brilliance this Sunday.

Leading his FaZe squad to the playoffs at the Perfect World Shanghai Major, karrigan demonstrated two instrumental T sides on the last two maps to take down FURIA in a gripping elimination match.

In the most critical stage of the series, karrigan made a daring choice: he throws away his stratbook.  Something he has explained in a post-match interview with Dust2.dk:

Today was a very strange game. We didn’t show up on the server like we did against G2. I was thinking, ‘This can’t be how we’re going to get eliminated from the Major.’

We tried to reset before the second map, came in with good energy. But suddenly we’re just dying to Glocks left and right, and I’m just like, ‘Guys, this has to stop.’

We moved over to the T-side. They have a really strong Dust2—I think they’ve only lost it once out of nine games on Dust2. I knew I had to call an unorthodox game. I started setting myself up for B splits and just trying to put a lot of pressure on them.

It worked, and then we pulled off some 2v5 clutches at one point, where we try to roll with the momentum.

[On Mirage] I basically threw out the stratbook and went into flow state because that felt like what we needed to hammer the last nail into the coffin, karrigan said to Dust2.dk.
