It’s official! Cache is back in Counter-Strike!

The wait is finally over. In a surprise update released last night, Valve officially brought Cache back to Counter-Strike. The iconic map has made its triumphant return, inviting both veterans and newcomers to battle it out across its famous industrial setting.

According to Valve, returning players will feel right at home in familiar locations. At the same time, new players will easily pick up the fundamentals of this classic three lane map. The developers emphasized that Cache is a map that heavily rewards strategy and teamplay.

For those eager to jump right in, the map is currently available across multiple game modes. You can currently queue up for Cache in Casual, Competitive, Deathmatch, and Retakes.

A brief history of Cache

Cache has a long and storied history within the Counter-Strike franchise. Originally developed by community mapmakers, it evolved from a custom creation into a legendary staple of competitive play. Here is a look at the major milestones that shaped the map:

2016Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev hits his legendary falling AWP double-kill at ESL One Cologne, resulting in a permanent graffiti memorial on the B site.
2019Cache is pulled from the Active Duty pool to undergo a massive visual rework, returning months later with a vibrant, overgrown aesthetic.
TodayThe fan favorite officially makes its return to the active matchmaking pool in the latest update.

Valve signed off their release notes with a crucial piece of advice for anyone pushing the A site: “Don’t forget to clear Forklift, and we’ll see you on the server.”
