Not long ago, FaZe was synonymous with deep runs and frequent grand finals. But that time is gone.
Now, Finn “karrigan” Andersen and company find themselves in a slump, which got even worse yesterday when they were eliminated in the group stage at IEM Melbourne.
A result that’s not acceptable, if you ask FaZe coach Filip “NEO” Kubski.
– No, it’s not okay. It’s disappointing, NEO said on the ESL broadcast when asked whether their current results were up to FaZe standards.
– We didn’t deserve to go through. That’s for sure. We’ve been working really hard recently, but sometimes in these games, we’re just not stable enough. We need to find consistency. Even though we lost most of the pistol rounds, we won more gun rounds. I mean, on Nuke, we just had a very bad half. So yeah, it is what it is. But there is more to come.
Losing to underdogs
FaZe’s elimination in Melbourne came at the hands of GamerLegion, who sent them packing with a 2-0 victory. Despite being up 11-4 on the second map, FaZe let the lead slip and lost 13-11 on Nuke, resulting in a crushing end to their campaign.
That was also something NEO commented on after the match.
– The last setup for us wasn’t good. I think it was a result of the entire last half and the pressure we had on ourselves. And GamerLegion is putting even more pressure each round – they played really fast-paced and good Counter-Strike, NEO said.
“It’s not time to give up”
After the loss, karrigan took to X to reflect on the team’s current struggles. The FaZe captain admitted it’s hard to see a way forward but said he’s determined to keep working.
