HLTV introduces rating 3.0 – Here’s the changes

HLTV’s Rating 3.0 brings economy-adjusted stats and a new Round Swing metric (replacing Impact), with assists back to 40 damage and opening deaths penalized equally.

HLTV has introduced rating 3.0 with significant changes to how the rating is calculated. We’ve gathered the biggest changes and tried to make them easily digestable right here.

Biggest changes

Economy / Context

  • Economy-adjusted stats across Kills, Damage, Survival, KAST, and Multi-Kills.
  • Only 44.7% of duels are equal-buy → eco-padding counts less; hard gun-rounds count more.
  • Harder duels pay more (e.g., T rifle vs rifle ≈ 1.10 “kill points”; vs starter pistol ≈ 0.54).
  • Routine AWP-favored duels are down-weighted (AWPers win ~56% T / ~60% CT vs riflers).

Kills / Rounds

  • Assists now count from 40 damage like previously.
  • Opening deaths are penalized as much as opening kills are rewarded.
  • Round Swing shares credit between killer, damage dealers, flash assisters, and trade kills.
  • New trade logic: “trade denials” and “failed trades” handled explicitly (≈5s window).

System / UI changes

  • Six sub-ratings: Kills, Damage, Survival, KAST, Multi-Kills, Round Swing (Impact removed).
  • Round Swing measures change in round win chance; zero-sum, with late clutches swinging most.
  • Multi-kills still matter via their own sub-rating (diminishing returns inside Round Swing).
  • Player pages and match pages add Round Swing panels, T/CT splits, and an eco-adjusted toggle.
