Former Major winning organization to return to Counter-Strike?

Recent statements from Luminosity Gaming founder Steve Maida indicate the organization is looking into reentering competitive Counter-Strike. This development follows industry reports linking the brand to player Lucas “lux” Meneghini.

Ownership changes and reacquisition

The discussions of a return come shortly after Steve Maida reacquired the Luminosity Gaming brand at the beginning of the year. Maida originally founded and co-owned the organization in 2015.

Prior to this recent acquisition, Luminosity was owned by Vertiqal Studios, who purchased the brand from Enthusiast Gaming in August 2025. The period under Vertiqal Studios involved public disputes, with several content creators alleging they were owed unpaid compensation. While Luminosity’s social media accounts stated these payments have been settled, the claims remain unverified. Maida’s purchase agreement ensures he does not inherit any debt accrued during Vertiqal’s ownership.

Outside of Counter-Strike, Luminosity has historically fielded rosters in Call of Duty and Halo, and it was the home organization for Tyler “Ninja” Blevins during his peak popularity in Fortnite.

Roster rumors and official comments

Speculation regarding Luminosity’s return began with reports that the organization is in talks with Lucas “lux” Meneghini, a Brazilian player currently on the bench for Legacy.

In response to the rumors, Maida published a statement to clarify the organization’s current position and outline their exploratory process.

The gossip goes so extreme so fast. Next they will say we are signing FalleN and Godzilla. I want LG back in cs more than anyone. Right now it’s just talking. We have talked about BR, NA, EU, mixed lineups and players. Learning economics. What’s possible etc. I knew that if I start having these talks eventually it will leak. I expected that.

Maida further clarified that no official steps have been finalized regarding a roster signing.

I haven’t made any decisions. It’s a big investment. We are exploring. If something serious happens you will hear from me first, of course. Would be nice to be back.

History in Counter-Strike

Luminosity Gaming holds a notable record in the Counter-Strike scene, primarily due to their victory at the MLG Columbus Major in 2016. The organization fielded a Brazilian roster that secured the championship before eventually transferring to SK Gaming, where the squad won a second Major at ESL One Cologne 2016.
