FlyQuest secure overtime upset against Sinners at IEM Cologne Major

Stage 1 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 commenced in Germany with two concurrent opening fixtures featuring Sinners against FlyQuest and M80 taking on Lynn Vision.

Many analysts had discounted FlyQuest prior to the tournament. The Australian roster has experienced a severe lack of Tier-1 opposition in 2026, a situation exacerbated by the geographical barriers that limit their practice opportunities. Defying these expectations, FlyQuest disrupted the server on Ancient by jumping to a commanding 6-1 lead in the first half.

Sinners steadily worked their way back into the match. The Eastern European team organized a solid response, overtaking the Australians to establish an 8-7 lead early in the second half. This momentum shifted during a critical round where Sinners executed a dry A-site hit despite carrying available utility. FlyQuest punished the unforced error immediately, annihilating the attack and erasing the deficit just as quickly as Sinners had built it.

FlyQuest silence doubters on Ancient

While Sinners managed to claw their way back by relying on raw aim duels and exposing cracks in the Australian defense, they could not close out the map in regulation. The match was pushed to a nervy and highly competitive overtime. In the added rounds, FlyQuest held their nerve to edge out a 16-14 victory and complete the opening day upset.

Result: FlyQuest – SINNERS 16-14

M80 recover from slow start to defeat Lynn Vision

In the second opening match, M80 also faced an initial deficit. Lynn Vision claimed the first three rounds on Inferno, establishing a 3-0 advantage before the North American squad found their rhythm.

Once their economy stabilized, M80 dictated the pace of the game. The team rallied to secure an 8-4 advantage going into the halftime break. The second half proved straightforward for the North American roster, who systematically closed out the map with a 13-8 final score.

Result: M80 – Lynn Vision 13-8

  • Player of the match: Michael “Swisher” Schmid – 1.70 rating, 20-15 K-D
