Falcons and MIBR punch semi-final tickets as CS Asia Championships group stage wraps up in Shanghai

The group stage of the CS Asia Championships 2026 has concluded in Shanghai, locking in the six rosters heading to the playoffs. Following three days of competition, the double-elimination brackets have whittled the 16-team field down, leaving Falcons and MIBR at the top of their respective groups to earn direct placement into the semi-finals.

Falcons secured their spot through a flawless run in Group A, capped off by a 2-0 victory over Legacy on Friday. In Group B, MIBR took the direct route to the semi-finals by defeating B8 in a 2-1 series during the upper bracket final, powered by a strong individual showing from Felipe “insani” Yuji. The Brazilian ended the match on Ancient with an insane 3.28 rating, which is a new record at a big event.

Lower bracket survivors lock in playoff positions

The final day of group play also determined the four rosters joining the semi-finalists in the playoff bracket. In the Group A lower bracket, MOUZ rebounded from an early opening-day map loss to TYLOO by stringing together three consecutive series victories. Their campaign concluded with a 2-0 sweep against paiN, confirming their spot in the quarter-finals. They are joined out of Group A by Legacy, who despite their loss to Falcons, advanced due to their earlier upper bracket performances.

From Group B, B8 secured their playoff life despite their upper bracket final loss to MIBR. The final playoff spot went to The MongolZ, who bounced back in the lower bracket with a 2-0 victory over Parivision in the deciding match on Friday.

Early exits for high-profile rosters

The tournament format proved unforgiving for several established names. North American representation was completely wiped out before the arena stage. Team Liquid was eliminated on Thursday following a 2-1 loss to The MongolZ in the lower bracket, while M80 fell to MOUZ on the same day. NRG was eliminated on day two, failing to make it out of the lower bracket opening round.

Other notable eliminations included Ninjas in Pyjamas, 3DMAX, and BC.Game, the latter featuring Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev. BC.Game exited the tournament in last place following consecutive losses to Falcons and paiN, failing to win a map in Shanghai.

The tournament now shifts to the single-elimination playoff bracket at the Shanghai Yuanshen Gymnasium, where the remaining six teams will compete for the title.

Playoffs set

MIBR and Falcons are ready for the Semi-Finals, where they will face the winners of the Quarter-Finals. Falcons face either B8 or MOUZ, while MIBR goes up against Legacy or The MongolZ.
