Players will no longer choose their preferred servers on FACEIT: the platform will pick the location for every CS2 match from each party’s connection data.
FACEIT have announced that from Season 10, automatic server matching “replaces the server preferences in your queue settings”. The change goes live with the new season on 9 December at and is the first of the Season 10 updates the platform promised to reveal through November.
How the server is picked
Each player gets a connection score for every server location. It measures ping, jitter and packet loss, both live and from recent matches. FACEIT then pick the server in two steps:
- Any location with a poor connection for you or anyone in your party is ruled out.
- From the locations that are left, one server is chosen for the whole match, based on connection score, match balance and queue times.
Players keep one lever. “Your party can still ban one location,” FACEIT write on the Season 10 page.
Until now, players chose their own preferred locations in the queue settings. From 9 December, that call belongs to the platform.
Priority servers for Premium and Super
FACEIT also confirmed that some locations will be priority servers, citing the high cost of running servers at their scale. When a priority server is close to capacity, it is reserved for Premium and Super matches until it is less busy, and it shows a lock in the server list. The rest of the time, it is open to every match.
FACEIT have not said which locations will be priority servers.
Still no new cities
When FACEIT set the Season 10 launch date last week, new server locations were the headline feature, and servers were the first update in line. Wednesday’s announcement sits under that heading on FACEIT’s page, but it explains how the server is chosen rather than where the new ones are. No cities or regions have been named yet.
The revamped interface and the new team experience are still to be detailed. Season 9 ends on 8 December at , and everything announced in November goes live together the following day.
