Russian esports team RUSH B has received a major warning from tournament organizer CCT (Champion of Champions Tour) after player tex1y exploited a game mechanic during CCT Europe Series 20 against Ukrainian team FAVBET.
tex1y’s controversial disconnect during CCT Europe Series 20
The controversy arose in the second round of the match on Nuke, where the 17-year-old Philipp “tex1y” Moskvitin deliberately disconnected before dying, seemingly to avoid a $0 loss bonus. Loss bonuses are crucial for maintaining a team’s economy in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), and this move raised concerns over competitive fairness.
Following an investigation, CCT confirmed that tex1y’s actions violated their competitive integrity rules and issued an official statement:
“During yesterday’s match in CCT Europe Series 20 between FAVBET and RUSH B, player tex1y violated the tournament rules by intentionally disconnecting without a proper and explicity stated reason. We have conducted our investigation, and we are issuing a major warning to RUSH B due to breach of competitive integrity.”
Community reaction and calls for harsher punishment
The incident quickly went viral on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), with many calling for harsher penalties such as match forfeiture or disqualification. While some argued that disconnects can happen in online play, others pointed out that tex1y’s action appeared to be a deliberate exploit rather than a technical issue.
CCT’s response: Why only a warning?
Despite the controversy, CCT opted for a warning rather than suspensions or bans, likely due to their existing rulebook limitations. However, the backlash may prompt stricter enforcement in future cases. If similar incidents occur, tournament organizers may impose harsher consequences, including player bans or team disqualifications.
RUSH B’s performance and current Roster
RUSH B ultimately lost the match 1-2 in the Best-of-Three (Bo3) series. Their current roster includes:
- tex1y
- kinqie
- KIRO
- z1Nny
- executor–
- Wierd_1k (Coach)
The Future of Competitive Integrity in CS2 Esports
This case highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining fair play in CS2 esports. While economic strategies are part of the game, exploiting mechanics to bypass tournament rules could lead to stricter penalties in the future. As scrutiny on competitive integrity increases, tournament organizers may update their rulebooks to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
