Breaking: Inaugural Esports Nations Cup in Riyadh postponed to 2027

The Esports Foundation has officially moved the debut edition of the Esports Nations Cup from November 2026 to November 2027. The multi-title national team competition was scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before organizers decided on a one-year delay following consultations with stakeholders and an assessment of the wider regional situation.

Regional conditions prompt one-year delay

According to the Esports Foundation, the scale of the tournament involves national teams and partner organizations from more than 100 countries and territories. In an official release, the organization explained that postponing the event provides stability for publishers, national federations, and participants while working through international logistics.

The foundation confirmed that Saudi Arabia remains the host location for the tournament in 2027, stating that local event operations and other scheduled sporting competitions in the country continue as normal.

Development funding and partner commitments remain active

Despite the calendar shift, the Esports Foundation confirmed that financial and structural support programs will proceed without interruption. All allocations under the ENC Development Fund for National Team Partners remain intact, and collaborative work with game publishers will continue ahead of the new 2027 timeline.

The decision to postpone the Esports Nations Cup was not taken lightly,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation. “The response from National Team Partners, publishers, players and communities around the world has shown us how much potential this competition has. We owe them an inaugural ENC delivered under the right conditions and at the level this idea deserves. Hosting the tournament in Riyadh next year does not change our commitment. We will continue investing in our National Team Partners, working with publishers and building the national ecosystems already taking shape around the competition.

Next steps for qualification and schedules

The Esports Nations Cup was introduced to establish country-based competition across several top competitive titles, aiming to run parallel to the existing professional circuit.

The Esports Foundation indicated that it will coordinate directly with national team partners and game publishers in the coming weeks to outline revised qualification systems, calendar dates, and long-term planning for the November 2027 event.
