Breaking: Counter-Strike Source 2 released!

For the first time in 11 years, a new installment of the Counter-Strike series has been published. The game developer Valve announced the news today.

Twitter post

The new game can be downloaded on Steam right now for free. The announcement has been anticipated after several hints and leaks had been flourishing online in the last couple of weeks. And this time it was real!

So what is new?

New engine:

Counter-Strike 2, as the new game is called, will include many of the desired features, that the community has been asking for. Most noticeable is the new game engine. CS:GO has always been played on the old Source engine, which Valve developed 18 years ago in 2004. In the new edition, Valve has finally upgraded the engine to Source2. An engine that has already proven its worth in Dota2.

128 tick servers:

Hallelujah! CS2 includes 128 tick servers. We don’t have to use external servers to play on 128-tick servers. 128-tick servers offer double the processing time of 64-tick servers. A higher server tick rate makes an online game feel more accurate and responsive to the player.

New match-making system:

Valve has also revamped the much-criticized match-making system to allow better matchmaking.
