MIBR, one of Brazil’s most well-known CS:GO teams, has declined an invitation to compete in the upcoming ESL Challenger Melbourne tournament. Marcos “tacitus” Castilho, the team’s assistant, took to Twitter to explain the reasons behind the decision.
In response to a fan’s query about why MIBR and 00Nation were not invited to the tournament, tacitus explained that the team had considered the invitation carefully but ultimately declined due to the logistical difficulties involved. He cited the long flight time and the significant time zone difference between Brazil and Melbourne as factors that made participation in the tournament unfeasible.
The decision comes as a blow to fans of MIBR, who were hoping to see the team compete in the tournament. As it stands, only four teams have been confirmed for the competition: Complexity, Bad News Eagles, IHC, and Grayhound.
Unlike in 2022, this year’s ESL Challenger Melbourne will not have a South American qualifier, meaning that MIBR will miss out on the chance to compete in the tournament altogether. Instead, four teams will qualify for the competition through qualifiers held in North America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
The ESL Challenger Melbourne will take place from April 28th to April 30th, with a total prize pool of $100.000. The winning team will also qualify directly for the ESL Pro League S18.
