BitSkins announces platform shutdown citing legal and technical constraints

On May 27, 2026, BitSkins announced the permanent closure of its skin trading platform. The service will disable all new deposits and marketplace listings on May 29, 2026, initiating a 34-day timeline for users to secure their assets.

Why is BitSkins shutting down?

The platform administration detailed several external pressures that forced the decision to cease operations. These factors include tightening legal regulations, unpredicted restrictions from authorities, and heavy VAT impositions. The company stated that the business had become loss-making after attempting to absorb the additional costs to protect the community.

In addition to financial hurdles, operating within the Steam ecosystem presented severe technological challenges. “Continuous API limitations, unpredictable network stability, and rising maintenance costs connected to Valve’s updates have amplified the difficulty of keeping the platform functional and secure under these harsh conditions,” the official announcement detailed.

What should users do before the final closure?

BitSkins outlined a three-phase procedure to accommodate Steam’s built-in trading holds. The platform operators advise all users to review their balances and inventories immediately.

Starting May 29, 2026, the marketplace will stop accepting new deposits and listings. Withdrawals will remain functional until June 30, 2026. During this period, users can withdraw their skins to Steam and transfer their withdrawable cash balance to their designated payment methods. The company explicitly advised users that deposits are non-refundable, instructing them to spend any remaining cash balance to buy skins from the marketplace and subsequently withdraw those items.

When will BitSkins close completely?

All automated withdrawals for both skins and cash will go offline on June 30, 2026. Any recovery of funds or items left on the platform after this date will require a manual verification process through the support team. The operators warned that this manual procedure will take significantly longer, stressing that the site is not a permanent storage service and inventories must be cleared entirely.
