Aurora dismantle G2 to advance to the 2-1 bracket at IEM Cologne

G2 and Aurora met today in Stage 3 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026, with both rosters looking to break the deadlock of their 1-1 records. Aurora ultimately secured the victory in two maps, showcasing resilience on defense and clutch mechanics to close out the series.

G2 fall short on their map pick of Overpass

The matchup began on Overpass, chosen by G2 after their convincing performance on the map against FUT yesterday. G2 started on the Terrorist side and walked away with four rounds by the end of the half. Securing four T rounds is generally a workable foundation for teams that are comfortable on the CT side of Overpass, but Aurora immediately complicated matters.

By winning the second pistol round, the Turkish roster amplified the pressure on G2. Aurora built a commanding 11-4 lead before G2 finally dismantled their offensive structure. A brief resurgence saw G2 string together four rounds, narrowing the deficit to 11-8. Aurora quickly recovered their footing, locking down match point and ending the map at 13-8. Taking away the opponent’s map pick served as an early upset and gave Aurora full control of the series momentum.

Wicadia steps up on Anubis to secure the series

The teams then moved to Anubis. G2 elected to start on the T side, and the choice appeared effective early on as they raced to a 6-2 lead. Aurora found their defensive rhythm just in time, answering back with four consecutive rounds to tie the game 6-6 at halftime.

The second half proved to be a turning point, highlighted by a critical 1vs3 clutch from Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın. With the teams entirely even up to that moment, his clutch broke the stalemate and provided Aurora with the economic leverage needed to pull ahead.

The Turkish squad took complete control of the map from that round forward, pushing G2 into a corner and finishing Anubis with a decisive 13-7 victory.

The sweep propels Aurora to a 2-1 record in the stage, while G2 are now pushed to the brink of elimination.
