Astralis face G2 in Paris as Staehr praises new head coach NEO: “He is letting us be creative”

Astralis recently underwent a structural change in their coaching staff, bringing in Filip “NEO” Kubski to replace Casper “ruggah” Due. This move marks the first international head coach for the Danish organization. With the team adapting to a new system, Victor “Staehr” Staehr shared insights into the operational differences between the two leaders and how his personal responsibilities have evolved in an interview with Pley.gg after their win against Ninjas in Pyjamas in the group phase at the Esports World Cup 2026 in Paris.

Transitioning to an international coaching system

The shift from ruggah to NEO introduced a different tactical philosophy for the active roster. Staehr explained that the Polish veteran provides the players with more freedom during official matches compared to the previous structure.

There is for sure a difference, they operate in different ways,” Staehr said. “ruggah was very strict, he wanted his ways and had a lot of stuff to say. Filip is giving us more loose, letting us do our stuff and be creative. In the games he cooks up some rounds and gives some suggestions, but he lets us think what is better for the opponents and just adds on what he thinks.

Increased responsibility and trust on the server

Alongside the adjustments behind the players, Staehr has stepped into a more central position within the server. The current setup relies heavily on his output and decision-making, a dynamic he views as a source of stability rather than an overwhelming burden.

I get set up a lot, they trust in me. If I do a call on CT, they trust me fully,” Staehr stated. “It gives some kind of confidence. When they put the trust in me, it is because they believe that I do my best to achieve what I can. I am just happy that they believe me and want to set me up like this, I am very grateful.

Astralis will face G2 later today at 16.00 CEST in the Round of 16 in Paris at the Esports World Cup 2026.
