Astralis defeat Aurora in airtight decider to stay alive at the Major

Astralis have fought back from a 0-2 start in Stage 2 of the Major to defeat one of the dark horses. The Starladder Budapest Major is the culmination of an up-and-down season for Astralis, and they remained alive thanks to an unlikely retake on the decider.

Aurora Gaming was one of the favorites to make it to the play-offs, and have fallen short of that goal. They lost close best-of-one matches to FaZe Clan, PARIVISION, and now a crushing best-of-three against Astralis.

“Losing the major is something different,” MAJ3R said in the loser’s interview. “It’s heartbreaking for me.”

The Turks took Astralis’s map pick of Nuke, but conspicuously failed to convert their own map pick and lost the decider in heartbreaking fashion.

Astralis win despite deficiencies behind the scenes

Astralis’s necessary win comes amidst a report that they did not receive salary for the month of December. It is also during an uncertain time for their roster. Magisk is only their player for the short-term, as the team and player explore their options for next year.

Ironically, Magisk was crucial on the decider, Mirage, being one of the top fraggers and winning the closing 1v1 on the map.
