Apex Legends Season 29 Patch Notes: Axle and Vantage Rework

The movement meta in Apex Legends is about to hit terminal velocity. Season 29 introduces Axle, a Legend designed to challenge the long standing dominance of Octane and Valkyrie by turning the floor into a high speed racetrack. Alongside this new contender, Respawn has delivered a massive overhaul to Vantage and structural changes to Conduit that will shift how teams approach mid range engagements and support utility.

TL;DR

  • New Skirmisher Axle joins the roster with a kit built entirely around sliding momentum.
  • Vantage receives a major combat rework including a new canted sight for her Ultimate.
  • Conduit gets two Tactical charges as base kit but loses raw healing per second.
  • Alter sees significant nerfs to her Ultimate range and recall safety to increase risk.
  • Ash receives minor velocity buffs to her passive to help her stay competitive.

New Legend Axle: The Sliding Specialist

Axle represents a shift in Respawn’s philosophy regarding movement. While previous Legends focused on verticality or simple speed bursts, Axle is all about lateral control and ground based momentum. In professional play, expect Axle to be a top tier pick for rotating through open space where cover is sparse.

TacticalNITRO GATEDeployable gate that boosts slide velocity for 5 seconds.
UltimateKICKSTARTEnemy seeking drone that knocks targets into the air and stuns.

Axle is a direct answer to the ALGS movement power creep in season 29. By giving her increased lateral control while sliding, she becomes incredibly difficult to track for enemy snipers. Her Nitro Gate is team agnostic, meaning a poorly placed gate could accidentally help an enemy team chase you down. Her Level 3 upgrade, Sliding Shooter, is a game changer for aggressive Skirmishers, it allows players to fire up to half a magazine directly from inventory while sliding, effectively bypassing the reload animation during a push.

Level 2Super Slider: Gain a second Tactical charge.Automata: Gain a second Ultimate charge.
Level 3Jump Gate: Nitro Gate grants a double jump.Sliding Shooter: Fire from inventory while sliding.

Vantage Rework: From Sniper to Marksman

Vantage has historically struggled in the final rings where long sightlines disappear. This update transforms her Sniper’s Mark into a more versatile tool. By adding a 2x canted sight, she can now effectively use her Ultimate in close to mid range skirmishes.

AbilityAdjustment DetailsMeta Impact
PassivePinging teams generates 70% of an Ult bullet.Encourages active scouting and faster Ult uptime.
Tactical17s cooldown (was 20s); 7m double jump range.Significantly better escapability and repositioning.
UltimateAdded 2x Canted Sight; faster ADS and rechamber.Makes her viable in mid range fights, not just long range.

The reduction in holster and deploy times makes her feel much less clunky. In the current meta, this could move Vantage from a niche pick to a legitimate alternative to Recon Legends like Bloodhound or Seer, especially with the new Herd Tracker upgrade that reveals an entire team upon pinging one member.

Conduit: More Flexibility, Less Raw Power

Conduit has been a polarizing Legend. While her win rate is high, her pick rate has stayed low. Respawn is attempting to make her more active by integrating her old Level 3 upgrade, Split Charge, into her base kit.

  • Tactical now has two charges by default.
  • Regen duration is reduced from 9s to 6s.
  • Regen rate is lowered from 20/s to 15/s.
  • Passive now grants an extra 5% speed boost when running toward Skirmisher teammates.

This change means Conduit players can now support both teammates simultaneously or stagger heals more effectively. However, the raw healing throughput is lower, meaning you cannot “tank” as much damage through the regen as you could before. The new Enduring Barrier upgrade at Level 3 is the clear winner here, allowing the shield regeneration to continue even while the player is taking damage.

Alter and Ash: Balancing the Skirmisher Class

Alter has been dominant in high level ranked due to how “free” her resets felt. These changes introduce a much needed window of vulnerability.

Alter Nerfs

  • Ultimate range reduced from 300m to 250m.
  • Recall times increased by 1 second for both Alter and her allies.
  • Void Breacher speed boost halved from 30% to 15%.

These nerfs mean teams using Alter’s Nexus to escape a bad fight are much more likely to be punished or chased down before the recall finishes.

Ash Buffs

Ash just recently got her sick prestige skin, but she’s been a bit weaker compared to other legends as of late. To compensate, her passive tracking velocity is being increased to 450 and the cooldown is dropping to 10 seconds. While these are minor quality of life improvements, they likely won’t be enough to push her back into the meta over a Legend like Axle or Wraith.
