Respawn is currently using the East Asia region as a laboratory for some of the most significant structural changes to Apex Legends we have seen in seasons. From radical shifts in how often we change maps to a fundamental philosophy change in matchmaking speed versus quality, the developer is clearly looking for a way to stabilize the competitive experience. Whether these changes are a blessing or a curse depends entirely on how much you value your time versus the fairness of your fights.
TL;DR
- East Asia servers are testing a 4 hour map rotation for Ranked.
- Global implementation depends on regional feedback from Japan, China, Taiwan, and South Korea.
- Matchmaking updates have increased queue times for high tier players to ensure fairer lobbies.
- Ranked Drop Zone UI now displays squad tier distribution rather than individual ranks.
- The Metallic Banshee Loba Heirloom recolor is now available for 150 Mythic Shards.
The Four Hour Ranked Marathon
In a move that has divided the community, Respawn is testing a 4 hour map rotation for Ranked play. Currently, this test is exclusive to the East Asia region, including servers in Japan and South Korea. The logic here is likely to allow players to truly settle into a map meta during a session rather than being disrupted every 60 to 90 minutes.

From a competitive standpoint, this is a win. It allows teams to refine their rotations and land spots without the constant whiplash of switching from the verticality of World’s Edge to the open fields of Storm Point. However, if you happen to loathe the current map in rotation, you are essentially locked out of meaningful progression for half a work day, but it’s probably a better move from our current map rotation of 1 day per ranked map. If the feedback from the Tokyo servers is positive, expect this to roll out globally by the next mid season patch.
Matchmaking Updates
The days of instant queues for Apex Predators might be coming to an end. Respawn has officially adjusted matchmaking for both Public and Ranked matches with a focus on lobby health over wait times.
| Change Type | Impact on Player Experience |
| High Tier Queues | Increased wait times to find closer skill matches for Diamond+ players. |
| Ranked Drop Zone | UI now shows the distribution of squad tiers in the ship. |
| Pubs Logic | Tightened skill buckets to prevent “stomp” lobbies. |

The update to the Drop Zone UI is a subtle but massive tactical shift. Instead of seeing a sea of individual badges, you will now see the tier distribution of the squads. This gives players a much clearer picture of the lobby’s actual sweat levels before they even hit the ground. It is a transparency move that helps players decide if they want to contest a hot drop or play for placement.
New Mythic Arrivals and Store Rotations
Loba mains who missed out on her original debut now have a second chance at glory. The Metallic Banshee, a sleek recolor of her Garra de Alanza folding fan, is officially in the Mythic Shop. It requires 150 Heirloom Shards and comes with the expected suite of new animations and visual flairs.
The April 21 store refresh also brings back some fan favorite legendary recolors. If you have been sitting on Legend Tokens, now is the time to spend them.
