Apex Legends Phantasm has appeared in the game files, according to reliable leaker Hypermyst. This mysterious character focuses on spectral and mobility-based gameplay, introducing new ways to move, scout, and deceive opponents. While the leak is still early, Phantasm’s ability kit could make him one of the most unique additions to the roster so far.
Apex Legends Phantasm abilities
Passive – Spectral Step
Enter a spectral form, leaving your body behind but allowing you to move faster, loot, and scout ahead. Press again to pull your body to your spectral form’s current location.
Spectral Step is unlike most Legend passives because it is input-based, similar to Ash’s dash or Sparrow’s double jump. This ability might let Phantasm briefly project himself into a ghostly state, exploring areas or collecting items before snapping back to his physical form.
We believe the “host body” could act as a decoy or vulnerable shell during this state. Another possibility is that the body becomes immune to damage for balance reasons, depending on how Respawn designs the mechanic. Either way, it seems like a high-risk, high-reward tool that encourages aggressive scouting and smart positioning.
Tactical – Split Focus
Create a spectral duplicate that mirrors your movements and actions for a short duration. While active, the user enters a ghost-like state and can manually cancel the ability at any time.
Split Focus combines traits from Mirage’s decoys and Fade’s phase shift, allowing Phantasm to confuse or mislead enemies with a clone that copies his movements. We think this could create intense moments during firefights where enemies struggle to identify the real Phantasm, especially in chaotic close-range fights.

Ultimate – Exoplasmic Reaction
Unknown.
There are no details about the ultimate yet, but given the theme, we expect it will enhance his spectral or illusion mechanics, possibly through a large-scale teleportation effect, temporary invisibility, or an area-based ghost state.
How we think Spectral Step could work in Apex Legends
We think Spectral Step will have some type of range or duration limit to keep it balanced. It might work like a toggle that allows Phantasm to enter his ghost form briefly, moving faster but losing access to combat actions.
It is possible that his spectral form could be semi-invisible with reduced speed, automatically canceling if he moves too far from his host body. This would prevent him from scouting the entire map while keeping the mechanic viable for short-range repositioning or sneaky loot grabs.
The Apex Legends community has mixed feelings about Phantasm’s design. Some players are excited about the potential for new mobility and deception mechanics, while others are skeptical about how Respawn will balance such a complex kit.
We think Respawn will need to find the right balance between risk and reward, ensuring that Phantasm’s mobility does not make him overpowered compared to existing Skirmisher and Recon Legends.
Release speculation
There is no official release date for Apex Legends Phantasm yet, but since ability names and references are already in the game files, we believe Respawn is actively testing him internally. If all goes smoothly, Phantasm could appear in Season 28 or later.
