MongolZ topple world No. 1 FURIA to win Group A

A month after nin9 joined, The MongolZ took FURIA’s own Cache pick on a map they had lost four times in a row, and 910 finished the series 61-34.

The MongolZ are in the semi-finals of IEM Beijing 2026 after a 2-1 win over FURIA in the Group A upper bracket final on Wednesday: 10-13 on Inferno, 13-8 on Cache and 13-11 on Dust2. FURIA came to China as HLTV’s new world No. 1 and Bucharest champions, and they were heavy favourites against a side 15th in the same ranking. Instead their run of seven straight series wins is over, and they drop into Friday’s quarter-finals.

Cache, of all maps

The series turned on the map that should have been FURIA’s. They picked Cache after winning it six times in a row: against BetBoom at the Thunderpick World Championship, against BetBoom, MOUZ and Nemiga in Bucharest, and against FaZe and NAVI earlier this week. The MongolZ had lost their last four Cache maps to BIG (twice), Vitality and Nemiga, and won 20 rounds across all four.

The MongolZ took the pistol round, and 910 opened the map with eight kills and no deaths in the first three rounds. They led 7-5 at the half on the T side, and once they switched, FURIA’s T side found almost nothing. Their only round before 6-12 was the second pistol, won by FalleN.

cobrazera had a quiet series, and at 8-14 on the map he was the one MongolZ player in the red. He picked his moment, though, with three kills in the round that brought up map point.

FURIA won two rounds from there, and then bLitz ran all the way round the map to catch FalleN and yuurih from behind and close it out at 13-8. The IGL went 21-13 with 108.7 ADR on Cache, and 910 added 22-9.

910 and the pistols

Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch was HLTV’s player of the match, the only player on the server with more than 60 kills. On Dust2 he went 26-9, and two four-kill rounds in the second half put The MongolZ 9-6 and then 10-7 up.

The MongolZ also won five of the six pistol rounds, starting on Inferno, where Techno took all five FURIA players on his own.

The Dust2 decider was level at 6-6 at the half, and the second pistol gave The MongolZ the first three rounds of their T side. With double AWP buys for molodoy and YEKINDAR, who went 21-17 on the map, they won four rounds in a row to tie it at 11-11. nin9 found the opening kill in the next round and cobrazera caught yuurih for 12-11. In the last round the bomb went towards B, came back through Suicide and was only planted late, but 910’s AWP and Techno on the site did the rest.

Molodoy was not enough

Inferno showed how good FURIA can be. Techno’s pistol ace started a 4-0 run on The MongolZ’s own pick, but molodoy and KSCERATO pulled FURIA back to 7-5 at the break. The AWPer went 25-13 with 91.3 ADR on the map, and his ace with an AK in a round The MongolZ looked set to win was the moment of the map.

molodoy finished the series 57-43, while KSCERATO went 21-33 on the last two maps after his 24-15 on Inferno, and FalleN ended 32-53.

It is FURIA’s first series defeat since Spirit beat them at PGL Masters Bucharest on 26 October.

Semi-finals on Saturday

For The MongolZ it is a big result for a new lineup. nin9 joined on 5 October, and the team dropped their first map here to Legacy before beating Legacy and HEROIC. It is also their second series win over FURIA this year, after the 2-1 in the PGL Cluj-Napoca quarter-finals in February.

Winning Group A takes them straight to the semi-finals on Saturday 7 November, with at least $120,000 locked in. HLTV’s VRS calculator had the win worth 53 points to them, enough to climb from 10th to ninth.

FURIA, a day after outlasting NAVI, now have to win a quarter-final on Friday 6 November to reach the same stage. We follow the playoffs on our IEM Beijing 2026 page.
