Valve CS2 update improves demo viewer and AUG reload animations

The latest Counter-Strike 2 update makes demos easier to work with, gives the AUG new reload animations to match last week’s faster reload and changes how round backups work on servers.

Valve released a new Counter-Strike 2 update overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. The biggest changes are to the demo and replay viewer, while the AUG gets new animations to go with the shorter reload time introduced a week ago.

Demo and replay viewer

Players who watch demos, whether to study their own matches or rewatch professional games, get several quality-of-life changes:

  • A progress bar now shows when a demo or replay is downloading.
  • The camera controls use a click-and-drag scheme.
  • Free camera and chase camera can now be used while a demo is paused.
  • Some minor issues when jumping to a different point in a demo have been fixed.

Being able to move the camera freely in a paused demo is particularly useful for analysts and teams reviewing specific rounds.

New AUG reload animations

Last week’s update cut the AUG’s reload time by half a second, but the animation did not change with it. Valve has now updated the standing and crouching reload animations to better match the new reload duration.

Round backups now need a server flag

Round backup files, which tournament admins use to restore a round after a technical problem, now require the server to be started with the flag “-allow_round_backup_files”. Tournament organizers and community server owners who rely on round backups will need to add the flag to their server setup.

Other changes

  • Allowed radio commands now have an explicit list.
  • A new “toolsskybox_occluder” tool material has been added to the CS2 Workshop Tools.
  • Stability improvements for the Vulkan renderer.

The full patch notes are available on Steam.
