donk, ZywOo, kyousuke, m0NESY, NiKo, molodoy, ropz, Spinx and more will cross paths this weekend for the BLAST Open title.
The quarter-finals of BLAST Open Porto kick off today, 4th of September, beginning with G2 against Team Falcons at 16.00 CEST.
This match-up will feature Counter-Strike giants such as Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovaĉ and Ilya ‘m0NESY’ Osipov facing off against former teammate Nemanja ‘huNter-‘ Kovaĉ and organization G2 Esports.
But that is far from the full headline for the tournament, with players like Daniil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets and Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut vying for the title. Championship-caliber teams like FURIA and potentially MOUZ also find themselves with a winning shot.
Team Spirit and MOUZ await in the semi-finals
Team Spirit are the on-paper and betting favorite for the event, coming off of a win at the Esports World Cup. They unsurprisingly took care of business in the group stage and have put themselves in position to win the tournament by only needing to win two more matches.
More surprising is to see MOUZ already in the top four, having defeated Team Falcons en route. MOUZ started the season by winning the BLAST Bounty outright, with Lotan ‘Spinx’ Giladi bagging the HLTV MVP award. However, they disappointed at the Esports World Cup being bested twice by the plucky FUT squad.
Spirit will face the winner of Falcons/G2, while MOUZ await either FURIA or Vitality. The lattermost match-up would be the worst for the underdog of MOUZ, being torn up by ZywOo and company for most of 2025 and parts of 2026, especially under high pressure.
The caveat: player burnout
In spite of the exciting and high-level match-ups ahead, the CS2 scene has been subject to complaints of an overloaded schedule leading to burnout.
This was highlighted in our recent interview with Shahar ‘flameZ’ Shushan, who criticized tournament organizers and the overall schedule at length. Today, we heard from Mareks ‘YEKINDAR’ Galinşkis that he doesn’t believe we are seeing “the best” from top players due to burnout.
The opinion of some players is that the quality of stacked playoffs, like BLAST Open Porto, is hampered by the overloaded schedule.
