BC.Game facing back-to-back gauntlet at open EWC qualifier

BC.Game will have to play three tricky opponents consecutively to earn critical VRS points for their season.

BC.Game will have to play three tricky opponents consecutively to earn critical VRS points for their season.

In the bracket of the Esports World Cup (EWC) Qualifier it’s a battle of the aspiring teams just outside of the top Global Valve Regional Standings (VRS) bubble. Not only that, they will be playing three consecutive best-of-three series under questionable circumstances.

Liquid (#18), 100Thieves (#39) and BC.Game (#54) find themselves on the same side of the bracket where only one team makes it through, with the latter having the hardest run.

BC.Game will have to beat Casper ‘cadiaN’ Møller’s OG in their first match today at 11:00, then, most likely a rising 100Thieves and Liquid in their following matches on the same day.

Three best-of-threes in a single day

In the highest levels of professional CS2, it is rare to see the best teams have to compete in two best-of-three series in a single day – much less three – especially in a tournament of EWC’s size.

Already brutal to be expected to perform in two consecutive series, which can last three or more hours each, teams at this qualifier are expected to play three of them today. Tournaments such as the IEM series have been criticized before for allowing teams to play two series without a day’s rest.

The EWC qualifier has already received criticism from players as well, with Jonathan ‘EliGE’ Jablonowski complaining of the sound conditions interrupting play.

With the introduction of VRS, it has allowed the introduction of tournaments that have looser rules as to the conditions of play for top teams, and the EWC qualifier has been no exception.
