The numbers behind MOUZ’s grand final victory

MOUZ was the more efficient and composed team across the board, neutralizing donk’s impact.

In the grand final of BLAST Bounty Season 2, MOUZ upset Team Spirit with a 3-1 win. Lotan ‘Spinx’ Giladi topped the scoreboard by far with 78 kills and a 1.59 rating, stealing the MVP award.

However, this does not tell the full story. The stats show MOUZ was a much more solid team overall than Spirit, despite making massive changes to their roster over the last months.

Much more effective trading despite new roster

Trade kills are critical to understanding CS2 esports. While duels are difficult to predict, they can be more safely secured when teammates are able to effectively avenge their partner, resulting in a trade.

Throughout the grand final, MOUZ dwarfed Spirit as far as trading goes. HLTV’s statistical table shows that 25% of MOUZ’s deaths were traded while Spirit only managed 18% overall.

This doesn’t have to mean MOUZ just hit better shots than Spirit. In fact, Spirit and MOUZ were close in the number of first kills (often 50/50 duels) they had, with 47 to 53 percent respectively.

MOUZ was also vastly superior in both advantaged and disadvantaged situations as well as utility usage, showing the caliber of the team only months since changing a huge part of their leadership.

donk’s quietly stellar performance

Despite Spinx’s dominance, Daniil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets was at least the second best player on the server. His usual dominance has accustomed us to demand absolute perfection.

In a convincing loss, including a 4-13 trouncing on Mirage, donk still had the second-most kills. He also had the highest damage per round win (121) on the server, displaying the carry job necessary.

While Spinx was certainly an essential factor for MOUZ’s dominance here, he was not put in the position to have to carry. The stats show that MOUZ took care of a Spirit that was well beneath them in almost every metric – admirable for their short time with their roster – even while donk was there.
