Valve will release Counter-Strike 2 Premier Season 5 later today, marking the beginning of a new competitive cycle. Players logging into the game will experience an immediate soft reset of their CS Rating, requiring them to play placement matches to establish their leaderboard position for the new season. The excact timing is still unknown, but the date is set.
Past season release dates
Valve has historically followed a semi-regular schedule for Premier season durations, although recent adjustments have accelerated the timeline. Below is the historical release schedule for the previous Premier seasons in Counter-Strike 2.
Season 1: September 27, 2023
Season 2: January 28, 2025
Season 3: July 15, 2025
Season 4: January 21, 2026
With Season 5 launching today, July 6, 2026, the transition brings immediate changes to the Premier environment. There is no downtime between seasons, meaning players can begin their calibration matches right away.
Rank recalibration and placement
The most significant aspect of a new season is the rating recalibration. Every player experiences a soft reset of their CS Rating, temporarily hiding their visible numerical rank. To establish a new rating for Season 5, players must complete a required set of placement matches. A new season also typically introduces weapon economy adjustments, general gameplay tweaks, and updates to the active duty map pool.
The rank reset serves as a fresh start for players who feel their current rating does not accurately reflect their skill level. Those who believe they are stuck at a lower rating or placed too high can use these placement matches as an opportunity to correct their standing on the leaderboard.
A new cache collection?
We already know that Cache will return to the active map pool for Season 5 replacing Overpass. We also know that these collections will leave the Armory in the menu.
Train 2025 Collection
Sport & Field Collection
Sugarface 2 stickers
Elemental Craft stickers
With the return of Cache in the map pool, it would make sense for Valve to release a new Cache 2026 collection, but we will have to wait and see.
Earning the Season 5 badge
A primary reason players monitor the season timeline is to ensure they have enough time and matches played to earn their commemorative season badge. These medals act as permanent records of player performance during a specific timeframe.
The criteria for earning a season badge require a player to have an active Premier rating and at least 25 wins at the end of the season. The medal color corresponds to the highest CS rating achieved during the season, not the final rating. The badge includes up to five bars, with one bar awarded for every 25 wins in that specific rating tier. Earning a fully upgraded badge with all five bars requires 125 wins at that tier. Clicking the medal in the inventory allows users to view season statistics, including the highest rating, win rate per map, and rank history.
