The Counter-Strike division of Aurora Gaming is undergoing a massive reconstruction. Over the past few days, the organization has announced the departure of head coach Sezgin “Fabre” Kalaycı, the benching of Caner “soulfly” Kesici, and the decision of in-game leader Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli to step down from the active roster. These moves leave Aurora with just three active players and no coach, strongly signaling a departure from their Turkish roots in favor of an international lineup.
MAJ3R and Fabre step away from competition
The restructuring began on June 29 with the announcement that Sezgin “Fabre” Kalaycı would be stepping down. The 36-year-old coach, who joined the core in November 2022 during their time in Eternal Fire, cited fatigue and minor health issues as his primary reasons for taking a break. Under his guidance, the team secured a victory at PGL Masters Bucharest in 2025 and maintained a regular presence in tournament playoffs.
A few days later, on July 2, veteran captain Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli followed suit. The in-game leader announced a pause in his professional career to focus on his family. MAJ3R has been a central figure for this roster since April 2025, leading them to top finishes at the Esports World Cup 2025, ESL Pro League Season 23, and the recent IEM Cologne Major. Aurora confirmed that MAJ3R will remain within the organization in a yet to be disclosed role.
Soulfly benched after six months
The final piece of the recent roster teardown was the benching of Caner “soulfly” Kesici. Brought in at the beginning of the year to replace Samet “jottAAA” Köklü, Soulfly filled the supportive roles for the team over a six-month period. During his tenure, he averaged a 1.01 rating and helped the squad achieve deep runs in tier one events, including the recent top four finish at the IEM Cologne Major. Soulfly has been moved to the bench and is allowed to explore new opportunities.
The international pivot and Ash rumors
With only Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş, Özgür “woxic” Eker, and Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın remaining on the active roster, the organization is now forced to rebuild. Multiple sources suggest that Aurora will transition to an international project.
Former GamerLegion coach Ashley “ash” Battye is heavily rumored to take over the head coach position. While speculation regarding potential player signings is widespread, no official confirmations have been made by the organization. The upcoming weeks will dictate the new direction for Aurora as they look to finalize their roster ahead of the next competitive season.
