THUNDERdOWNUNDER stun MIBR in massive opening upset at IEM Cologne Major 2026

The Australian roster THUNDERdOWNUNDER entered the IEM Cologne Major 2026 as heavy underdogs. A significant portion of the Counter-Strike community projected the team to exit Stage 1 without a single victory, placing them firmly in the 0-3 category for Pick’em predictions. Conversely, their Brazilian opponents MIBR stood alongside GamerLegion as strong candidates to advance flawlessly with a 3-0 record.

When the match commenced on Inferno, the predicted dynamic failed to materialize. THUNDERdOWNUNDER established an immediate 4-0 advantage. Players like Tynan “TjP” Purtell and Tyson “asap” Paterson operated without apparent pressure, executing a strong Terrorist half that completely dismantled the Brazilian defense. The Australians secured an 8-4 lead by the halftime interval.

An eco round ace seals the Brazilian collapse

MIBR briefly found a lifeline by winning the second half pistol round. The momentum shifted back immediately in the following round. Armed with a Five-Seven, asap executed an aggressive push through a smoke screen. He secured four rapid eliminations before acquiring a dropped AK-47 to complete the ace.

This singular play eradicated any remaining economic stability and morale for MIBR. The Brazilian squad failed to recover, allowing the Australians to close out the map with authority. THUNDERdOWNUNDER finalized the match with a decisive 13-6 scoreline, recording one of the most unexpected results of the opening day.

B8 secure flawless second half on Mirage to secure first win in Cologne

B8 and TYLOO met on Mirage to decide their opening match at the IEM Cologne Major 2026. The initial stages of the contest proved highly competitive, with both teams exchanging rounds evenly to conclude the first half in a 6 to 6 deadlock.

The dynamic shifted completely once the teams switched sides. B8 seized total control of the server during their Terrorist half, dismantling the TYLOO defense. The Ukrainian squad executed a flawless offensive showing, winning seven consecutive rounds to close out the match with a 13 to 6 victory.

Andrii “npl” Kukharskyi and Artem “kensizor” Kapran anchored the performance for B8, posting strong individual statistics throughout the map. The match was less consistent for the young AWPer Daniil “s1zzi” Vinnyk, who experienced several shaky moments during the series despite his team’s comfortable margin of victory.
