SkinBid, one of the most recognized third-party skin marketplaces in Counter-Strike 2, has officially entered bankruptcy. The Danish-registered company was placed under bankruptcy proceedings on 21 November 2025, ending a four-year run in the CS2 trading ecosystem.
The platform remains online temporarily, but all users must withdraw their balances and items by 5 December 2025. After this deadline, any unclaimed skins or funds may no longer be retrievable.
Valve’s new rules contributed to the collapse
SkinBid’s shutdown comes after a turbulent year for CS2 trading platforms. Valve’s new Trade Protection system introduced mandatory 7-day trade holds on all player-to-player trades. Items acquired in any trade cannot be resold, cashed out, or moved for a week, and trades can be reversed in case of account theft.
For marketplaces, this meant:
- No more instant cashouts
- All payouts delayed for at least seven days
- Higher operational and security costs
- Dramatically slower trading volume
The update caused a significant slowdown across the entire CS2 economy and forced multiple platforms to rethink how they operate. For SkinBid, these restrictions directly impacted its business model and daily turnover.
Financial pressure had been building
Public financial records for 2024 showed the company running at a loss of more than DKK 2 million, following an even larger deficit the year before. Despite gains in visibility and user growth, SkinBid struggled to convert activity into sustainable profit. Rising costs and competition from larger marketplaces added further pressure.
Statements from the ownership
Co-owner Oliver “zipeL” Behrensdorff called the shutdown “the end of a dream,” noting that he aimed to build a fully compliant, transparent EU-based marketplace. He highlighted years of obstacles, some outside the company’s control, and expressed pride in SkinBid’s integrity and user-first approach. His priority now is ensuring an orderly shutdown.
Mark “ohnePixel” Zimmerman, who had been the public face of SkinBid in its earlier days, remarked on his stream that the outcome is “a lose-lose-lose for everyone”. OhnePixel noted that when SkinBid launched it was “a dream come true” for him, but he had stepped away from an active role about a year prior.
Impact on traders
While the closure removes one of the more trusted CS2 trading platforms, the broader skin market continues to function under Valve’s new rules. Traders should expect slower turnaround times and stricter security, but the overall ecosystem remains active through other marketplaces.
For now, the most important message for SkinBid users is simple:
Withdraw your items and balance before 5 December 2025.
