A little over a week ago it came out that Gabe Newell, the owner of Valve, had picked up yet another yacht. When you look at how much money Steam is printing in 2025, it suddenly makes perfect sense.
According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, a games market intelligence firm that tracks PC and console revenues, games on Steam have already generated more than 16 billion dollars in revenue this year, and that figure was calculated before the year is even over.
That already puts 2025 ahead of 2024, which held the previous record at around 15.3 billion dollars, and continues a decade of almost uninterrupted growth for Valve’s store.

Another yacht for Gabe?
Gabe’s new boat is called “Leviathan”, a 111 meter superyacht built by Dutch yard Oceanco with a reported price tag around 500 million dollars. It is also one of the largest yachts ever built by Oceanco, and Newell is not just the owner of Leviathan, he is now the owner of the shipyard itself.
That half a billion dollar price tag sounds wild until you zoom out and look at Valve’s cash flow. Alinea’s estimates suggest that Valve itself has already made more than 4 billion dollars in 2025 on Steam from its own titles.
Since Valve fully owns Dota 2 and the Counter-Strike series, which continue to rank among the highest earning titles on the platform, they can take 100% of the profit from those games.
