Team Vitality has secured its place in the BLAST Rivals Season 1 Grand Final after defeating Team Spirit in Copenhagen, extending their unbeaten run on LAN to 24 matches. This now marks the second-longest winning streak in competitive CS history.
Before today’s match, Vitality shared the second spot on the all-time list with Team Liquid. While the legendary 60-match LAN streak by Ninjas in Pyjamas remains far ahead, Vitality’s current run is a major milestone in the modern era of Counter-Strike.
The longest winning streaks on LAN in CS history
ZywOo Shines as Vitality Dominate Semi-Final
Win number 24 came in dominant fashion, with 13-8, 13-9 victories on Mirage and Nuke. Vitality opened Mirage with a crushing 11-1 lead in the first half. Although Spirit put up a stronger fight after the side switch, the early damage was already done. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut delivered a masterclass with 123 ADR, decisively winning the marquee duel against Danil “donk” Kryshkovets.
Nuke started out close, but Vitality quickly dismantled Spirit’s T-side after halftime. Very little went right for Spirit, as reflected in the scoreboard, where in-game leader Leonid ‘chopper’ Vishnyakov led the way until the final rounds. Vitality sealed the map 13-9 to reach their fifth Grand Final in a row, having won the previous four with captain Dan “apEX” Madesclaire finishing the match with a stellar round.
Falcons Await as Vitality Chase LAN Win Number 25
They will now take on Team Falcons in the tournament’s final match. If it’s anything like their thrilling Grand Final in Melbourne, which went to triple overtime in the final map, fans are in for another classic.
Vitality’s LAN streak stands at 24. Tomorrow, they will go for number 25.
