Top-tier event cancelled due to extended Major timeline

One less stop on the 2025 Counter-Strike calendar.

StarLadder’s first tournament of 2025, StarLadder StarSeries Season 19, has been cancelled, the tournament organizer revealed in a press release.

The top-tier event was originally scheduled to run from May 26 to June 1.

The Ukrainian tournament organizer cited “an extended timeline for the Major in June” as the reason behind the cancellation.

– Unfortunately, we have to cancel the event in the first half of the year due to the extended timeline for the MAJOR tournament in June. We also found that rescheduling the tournament is impossible because there are no free weekends left in the first half of the year, StarLadder wrote in a statement.

The extended timeline may be related to Valve’s decision to expand the Majors from 24 to 32 teams, which increases the length of the tournament and its qualifiers.

Major in Budapest?

StarLadder was set to host two events this year. The second tournament is confirmed to take place in September in Budapest, Hungary, and will feature 16 teams and a $500,000 prize pool.

Additionally, StarLadder is rumoured to have been selected as the tournament organizer for the second CS2 Major of 2025 – also in Budapest.
