“It came all of a sudden”: sjuush reflects on HEROIC’s dissolution

Rasmus “sjuush” Beck believes the newly disbanded Heroic squad had more to give.

After nearly four years in HEROIC, Rasmus “sjuush” Beck found himself leaving the Norwegian organization during the off-season, signing a deal with Ninjas in Pyjamas.

But a transfer was not on sjuush’s bingo card going into 2025, the Dane reveals in an interview with Pley.gg.

We caught up with the 26-year-old rifler to discuss the unexpected breakup of HEROIC’s roster and how it caught him off guard.

– We had a pretty good idea that NertZ were leaving. But in my head, we were still going steady towards success, so it came as a surprise to me that TeSeS, kyxsan and degster’s were going – it all came all of a sudden, sjuush says to Pley.gg.

He adds:

– I remember waking up in the morning and I heard some rumours about the biggest transfer in CS history, and I had no idea what they were talking about. I had no clue it was about our team. So, when I saw the news about it being HEROIC, I was definitely surprised. I think everything happened quickly. Just one day to another, pretty much.

Question: Was the plan and idea that you four guys would continue together this year?

– Yeah, definitely for me. I thought we were heading in the right direction, and we were improving all the time. Especially from the Major, where we were doing really, really good. Even the quarterfinal against G2, I felt we should have won. If you ask everyone in the team, they will say we should have won that game. Who knows how it would have looked if we won that match?

– But I also understand HEROIC on a business level. It’s an offer that you can’t really say no to, sjuush admits.

Mass departures

The silly season, ignited by the conclusion of the Shanghai Major in December, ended up being a busy one for HEROIC, with the organization shipping away its entire roster. The first departure was the star, Guy “NertZ” Iluz – an expected transfer, according to sjuush.

The newly-concluded silly season, triggered by the conclusion of December’s Shanghai Major, was an eventful one for HEROIC. The organization opted to part ways with its entire roster, starting with star player Guy “NertZ” Iluz—a move sjuush says didn’t come as a shock.

Then Falcons came knocking, picking up the HEROIC trio and its valuable VRS points.

– Obviously, it’s a sad way it ended – and that it ended so fast. But it is what it is. I think I have accepted it now, but it was pretty tough in the beginning. Because as said I thought we had a really good team with great chemistry and we were moving in the right direction, but it was just not meant to be.

Starting from scratch

By joining NIP, alongside fellow Dane Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer, sjuush is embarking on a new challenge. Unlike Falcons, the revamped NIP lineup will begin the 2025 season outside the upper tiers of Valve’s global ranking.

This means a tougher path to securing direct invitations to tier-1 tournaments—a stark contrast to sjuush’s HEROIC days.

– It was really hard to accept the fact that you would have to start from scratch with there being no big tournaments at all. It’s rough. I have been so used to attending all the big tournaments, and I have been to every single Major since 2021.

– But I know I’ll be there at some point again. So for me mentally, it’s not the worst thing that could have happened. It could always be worse than this. In six months, who knows if we’re in an even better place than we were before. Maybe it’s better than HEROIC. Maybe it’s better than Falcons. But I truly believe that I can build something great with NIP.

In the coming days, you can read part two of our interview with sjuush, where he talks about his decision to join NIP, his goals for 2025 and more.
