The schedule for the opening round of the Play-In stage at IEM Katowice 2025 has been revealed. The tournament, a cornerstone of the competitive Counter-Strike calendar, will see 16 teams competing for a spot in the prestigious main event.
Opening round matchups
The first round will feature the following matchups:
- Imperial fe vs. FURIA
- 9INE vs. Evil Geniuses
- Movistar Riders vs. MOUZ
- BIG vs. 00NATION
- Virtus.pro vs. Complexity
- ENCE vs. TheMongolz
- Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. Apeks
- OG vs. Monte
The format
The Play-In stage will feature a double-elimination format, with eight teams advancing to join the already qualified squads in the group stage. The competition includes a mix of seasoned rosters and rising teams, each looking to secure their place in one of Counter-Strike’s biggest tournaments.
Teams that lose their opening match will have another chance in the lower bracket, while winners will advance to the next round in the upper bracket.
A strong performance in the Play-In stage is critical, as the winners will join the main event for a shot at the trophy, valuable VRS points and of course the $400.000 first prize.
The action in Poland begins on the 29th of January.
