HEROIC could very well lose two of their most important pieces after the Austin Major.
Earlier this month, Sheep Esports reported that both AWPer Álvaro “SunPayus” Garcia and head coach Eetu “sAw” Saha have reached a verbal agreement to join G2.
If the move goes through, it would leave HEROIC without two of their most central figures heading into the second half of the year.
Now, voices from within the team have addressed the growing speculation.
Talks behind the scenes?
In an interview with HLTV, sAw was asked directly about the report linking him with a move to G2. While not confirming anything, the Finnish coach acknowledges that “there’s probably always going to be talks behind the scenes” between agents and teams.
But sAw also stressed that his focus remains on the present.
– I think there’s always going to be rumors, and there’s probably always going to be talks behind the scenes about who can go where and agents and organizations talking, but our focus is on this event. We have built these steps, so we’re just now going to focus on the tournaments and take these steps.
– Usually, these player breaks and tournament breaks will have talks and figure out where we are with the team and where everyone is. But of course, the focus is on the moment and on this tournament to do our best, sAw said to HLTV.
IGL weigns in
Linus “LNZ” Holtäng also touched on the subject in a separate interview with BLAST. While unable to confirm or deny the reports, the HEROIC IGL explained how the team handles potential distractions.
– Obviously, I can’t comment about the situation, but when you see leaks like this you just have to understand that your career still goes on. No matter what happens, if it goes through or not, you still have to focus on the team to get as good results as you can in the tournaments you’re playing.
– You also have to stay in the right place individually. You still have to play, and you need to perform. Nothing changes in that sense, LNZ said to BLAST.
HEROIC currently compete at IEM Dallas alongside the rest of the Counter-Strike elite.
