Could we see the iconic organization return to fielding an NA lineup?

After weeks of complete radio silence, Cloud9 has finally spoken out about the future of its Counter-Strike division.

At this point, the North American organization only consists of head coach Konstantin “groove” Pikiner and Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy, with the latter benched following a turbulent 2024 that led to mass departures.

Cloud9 offers brief update

With fans left in the dark, Cloud9’s Senior Social Media Manager, Mateus Portilho, finally broke the silence in a response on Reddit, apologizing for the lack of updates and assuring that news is on the way.

– So sorry for the lack of comms lately. We are still working internally on next steps for the CS division as we speak and should have something for this or next week. The beginning of the year has been really hectic on our side and we’re trying as much as we can to provide an update for our C9 CS fans. Thank you for your patience, Portilho wrote.

The Shanghai Major ended up being the last tournament of Cloud9’s profiled CIS squad.

Players leaving left and right

The roster departures began in the off-season when Kaisar “ICY” Faiznurov left for Virtus.pro, followed by Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov and Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov, who joined BetBoom in January.

Lastly, star player Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko was picked up by G2, leaving Cloud9 with no active players.

Now, the question remains – will Cloud9 return to its roots and sign a North American squad, or is the organization on the verge of exiting Counter-Strike?
