It seemed like a widely praised decision when Valve announced the removal of Vertigo from the active map pool earlier this year. The map had long divided the community and was seen as a weak link in the competitive map pool.

In its place came Train – a reworked version of the legendary map, making its official return for the first time since 2021.

However, nearly four months later, Train has struggled to gain traction.

According to HLTV’s data, Train is by far the least-played map in 2025. The second-lowest in the pool, Inferno, has been played nearly twice as often, and the gap only grows from there. Despite its nostalgic value and iconic design, Train has yet to prove itself in the modern CS2 landscape.

Whether teams are still adjusting or simply don’t trust the layout yet, one thing is clear: Train may have replaced Vertigo, but it hasn’t replaced its place at the bottom.
